Since being called to the bar, Tom has practiced exclusively in criminal law. He has represented clients facing a wide range of offences including assault with a weapon, sexual assault, possession for the purpose of trafficking, firearm offences, manslaughter, as well as second-degree and first-degree murder. Prior to attending law school, he worked in construction as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator on various projects across Canada, including 4 summers in the Canadian Arctic.
Tom has extensive trial experience in both Provincial and Supreme Court and has represented clients in both judge alone and judge and jury trials. Prior to joining Waugh and Associates, Tom acted as Co-Counsel on three significant homicide trials: a manslaughter trial in Nelson, BC, a second-degree murder trial in Kelowna, BC, and first-degree murder trial in Vancouver, BC.
Tom is dedicated, thorough, and detail oriented. He is a relentless advocate for his clients at all stages of the criminal court process. While many criminal matters can resolve without a trial, there are some files that simply must go to trial. Criminal trials are complex and dynamic. Tom is a confident, experienced trial lawyer who tirelessly defends his clients in court.
Tom is primarily focused on conducting criminal trials and represents clients across Vancouver Island who are facing criminal charges in both Provincial and BC Supreme Court.
