Crown sought 9-year jail sentence on multiple PPT files, Judge agreed with Defence submissions and imposed time-served sentence amounting to 3.5 years

This client retained Waugh & Associates to assist with his sentencing hearing only after he had already entered pleas on a number of files. This client was Metis; as such defence counsel requested a Gladue report prior to sentencing. At sentencing, Crown sought a global sentence of 9 years in custody while defence counsel a 3.5-year jail sentence, amounting to time served, was appropriate. Defence counsel made comprehensive Gladue submissions at sentencing and the sentencing judge ultimately imposed the time served sentence sought by defence counsel.
